Derevyanchenko has 12 wins

Ukrainian middleweight boxer Sergey Derevyanchenko lost in a title fight to American Daniel Jacobs in a fight for the vacant IBF middleweight belt.

The duel for the Ukrainian did not start in the best way – already at the end of the first round.

Derevyanchenko touched the ring with his gloves after a missed blow, and the referee counted him down.

However, Derevyanchenko was not embarrassed by what happened, and he worked according to a previously noticed plan for the fight. The Ukrainian worked as the first number, looking for the opponent’s head, while Jacobs worked towards, actively defending himself with his body.

Sergey’s best shot in the fight came in the second round, when he sensitively hooked the opponent on the right.

But further rounds due to work on the body and towards, Jacobs won. Some equal rounds could have been given to the Ukrainian, but still it was only a small flash in an equal fight.

In the championship rounds, realizing his unenviable position (especially due to a knockdown), Derevyanchenko added speed, made a couple of good attacks, and in the last round the fight completely switched to cutting, which remained with the Ukrainian. But Jacobs persevered and won the fight.

The fight lasted all 12 rounds, following which one judge gave the victory to Derevyanchenko 114:113, and the other two – to Jacobs 115:112. It was Jacobs who thus won the fight and became the IBF world champion.

In New York, the Ukrainian will face former WBA world champion American Daniel Jacobs.

The IBF title became vacant after Gennady Golovkin abandoned his defense against mandatory challenger Sergei Derevyanchenko, preferring to fight Saul Lvarez.

Derevyanchenko and Jacobs not only have the same promoters Al Haymon and Keith Connolly, but also the same coach – Andre Rozier, who eventually prepared the American with whom he has been working for longer.

Derevyanchenko has 12 wins (10 KOs) in 12 professional fights. Jacobs had 36 fights, of which he won 34, and was defeated in two more. Previously became the WBA world champion.

The Ukrainian fought his last fight on March 3, defeating the American Dashon Johnson (22-23-3, 7 KOs), who refused to continue during the fight. On April 28, Jacobs defeated the Pole Maciej Sulecki (26-1, 10 KOs) by unanimous decision of the judges.

The duel between Derevyanchenko and Jacobs will take place on October 27 in New York at the Madison Square Garden small arena. Our site will conduct a text broadcast, which will start at 06:00 Kyiv time.
